http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6134432.stm

BBC did a piece on the potential 2008 Presidential candidates shaping up at the moment, and I have to say I'm not impressed. There's maybe one or two people listed here that I could vote for without getting physically ill, and even then I'm still disappointed. Is this really the best they can do?

Your thoughts?

The Democrats certainly don't have too many worthy candidates currently (maybe howard dean could come back). Romney- HELL NO! McCain, I'm not totally against that. I think a moderate republican would be great. Just my humble opinion though.

The problem is the finances that comes from their "base" Hillary pissed them off over Iraq and the Conservatives have been pissed at McClain on and off for years.

I think Romney is a real possibility for a Republican nomination particularly because of the PR from working with the Democrats in his state on healthcare reform. Just a thought, I have mixed feeling over the guy.

Thank God we can mark George Allen off the list

I'm pissed at Hillary because she's a two-faced opportunist AND a fascist. She'll side with anybody on almost any issue if it gets her elected, and there is the potential that she actually believes the media censorship madness she peddles. So she's either a monster or a scary monster.

I really liked John McCain until the Evangelicals made their threat against the Republican party and he dropped his so-called standards for pandering to whatever far-right wing base his handlers in the Republican party told him to. I really thought he was a moderate up to that point, which he has since followed with a number of underhanded and manipulative ploys to confuse or control the public's perceptions of the election. He disappointed me more than anyone on that list.

My best guess is that McCain is going to take it. The Democrats have absolutely nothing to offer that isn't an automatic loss, and there's no one but McCain selling even a half-way believable moderate face. I'm probably going to have no one to vote for in the 2008 election, and that really bothers me.

I wish it was Hillary who slipped up before the election, instead of Kerry. At least then he would have been the one who won the upcoming primary and I could vote. I know you despise him and there's nothing I can do to change that opinion, but I liked him a lot more as a candidate despite his unbelievably, poorly chosen campaign speeches.

McCain

"he dropped his so-called standards for pandering to whatever far-right wing base his handlers in the Republican party told him to." -- It's by far the most disappointing thing he's ever done (IMO). It appears to be all about the PR and fundraising for 2008 at this point. I still a fan of his, but this recent back and forth is a huge problem for me

My problem with Kerry is that he hasn't EVER stood for anything. The stupid "voted for it before he voted against it" really sums up his apalling voting history. I was shocked as I read 2 inches of twenty years in Congress.

Then, during the election, he changed his mind with the polls -- he hasn't and doesn't stand for anything.

To the military, he charged that the men and women in Iraq are killing women and children in the dead of night. His comtemptuous comments towards the military has been numerous.

I could go on, but there are moderate Democrats I'd rather see.

I'm particularly curious how the more moderate Jane Harman will work things out with fellow Californian Nancy Pelosi. Harman is no Presidential candidate, but the relationship between the Moderate Democrats and the leftists in charge will reveal Candidates over the next 12 months.

You think Hillary should just run with

"Honk if you're a Honky"

"Vote for me Whitey"

"I'm a Whitey, you're Whitey, wouldn't ya' want to vote for Whitey too"

She's amazing.

McCain is as bad as Clinton. And there is not much difference between him and Obama.

"McCain is as bad as Clinton. And there is not much difference between him and Obama."

Can't agree with you there. McCain and Obama disagree primarily on the War, taxes but they are similar on social issues.

McCain is much more moderate, but not a Conservative by any means

I would say that moderate is Liberal lite, you can keep it. McCain and Obama agree on closing down Gitmo, are against waterboarding, and Obama may be more warlike than McCain. Cripes, Obama wants to bomb Pakistan.

They both worship the high priest of Global warming, and are against drilling and neither has a clue about the energy or economic policy.

They are all the same poison, it is just which one will kill you sooner and more painful.

That is what this old grouchy man has to say about that.

So, for me, I didn't really care for any of the Repub candidates either.

Romney was the closest, but far too conservative for me on social issues.

Ron Paul would be ideal with the exception of the Libertarian montra towards foreign policy. I think that a serious contender as a third party could exist with his internet appeal, the word is out there, OKAY...but we're not in utopia and the global economy alone dictates his approach wouldn't work or at best, would be a decade long work in progress.

Your thoughts?

Re : McCain on Global Warming

I felt like I had been stabbed in the heart. I can't believe he's serious. Even on revisiting Kyoto -- Clinton even turned that down.

Bob Barr is looking good. I never had a problem with Ron Paul either.

I know they are popular in Nolan's universe and with Nole himself, but I cannot agree with the isolationist plan for foreign policy.
