The band is receiving 10 free passes for the convention, one of which is
mine. The news reached Eric the day after he pre-bought tickets for
DragonCon, heh heh.
Although I know Eric's been talking to the DragonCon comittees about it for
some time, I was surprised that they're willing to let Yeti play at the
convention based on the fact that their music is VERY far from mainstream
music. Other bands that normally play at this convention are the likes of
"The Misfits" and "Gwar" which, although not mainstream either, are at least
VERY well-known national acts. It's nice to think that a "Tampa Bay-based"
band like Yeti can pull off this kind of gig, and it certainly holds promise
of future gigs like this coming their way.
One thing I should note though...even in my unbiased opinion, Yeti is a
great band in their genre, and is always well-received by folks that came to
their shows EXPECTING that genre, but this may prove to be a difficult sell
to convention goers that aren't already familiar with this type of music.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.
They will also have a selling table reserved for them at the convention
where friends of the band will attempt to sell various "semi-related" items.
Yeti is also working to get either a new CD recorded in time for
distribution during DragonCon, or to get their first CD reprinted with some
of their newer material added to it. Unfortunately, the ownership of the
first CD's printing rights are in debate at the moment. A distribution
company (name withheld) that "signed" the band, and then did little else for
them, may actually own rights on the material for that CD.
In any event, known contributors to "the table" include a mutual friend of
Eric and mine: "Rob, the armorer". He is the owner of Clearwater-based
"Steel Dreams Studios", and will have a handmade Maximillion suit of armor
on display at the table. Rob hand-crafts period-accurate and non-period
armor to be filmed, worn, displayed, and even battled-within during
"SCA-based events" (the Society of Creative Anachronism holds medieval
full-contact combat contests where combatants attack each other in full
armor and padded swords with "kills" and "amputations" being awarded on an
honor system basis).
With period armor, Rob uses only methods that were available to armorers of
that period in which the armor was originally made, creating ultra-authentic
period armor sought after by collectors and movie companies nationwide. He
is also at least partially credited with creating the armor parts that Yeti
wears onstage, although some of that armor was actually made by Yeti members
under Rob's tutelage. Rob also works with animatronics for TV commercials
and the like, and is also in the process of making vaccum-formed armor
similar to ones depicted in the role-playing game, "War Hammer", in the hopes
that some will be ready in time for the convention. If so, I'll be wearing
it because I'm his original model for the vacuum-formed armor.
More info later as some of the finer details are pinned down, and the band's
play date/time is finalized. Everyone involved is REALLY looking forward to
this. Wish them all luck!

Hip Hip Hooray!! Seriously, this is a great opportunity for one of our own. We all wish Eric and Yeti the best of luck in "knockin' them dead" at DragonCon!
