SCOOBY DOOBY DOO!!!
Scooby Doo, which opened this past Friday in 3,447 theaters, raked in a whopping 54.2 million in cold hard cash, and found itself trailing only "Spider-Man" at 114.5 million and "Clones" at $80 million. CGI SCOOBY averaged an impressive $15,711 per screen. This despite the critical dismay that the movie was stupid and ridiculous. Hey...the cartoon was stupid and ridiculous. I say it's nice Hollywood for once didn't screw up a classic by making it something it isnt. Certainly this is pure escapism, as is the cartoon on TV.

I have no idea what these so called experts were looking for if not for traditional Scooby fare, which borders on the insane and absurd. As is usually the case, though, the movie going public has the last say, and they're saying they love the new Scoob.

As if this isn't enough, it SQUASHED the highly-anticipated release of The Bourne Identity with Matt Damon by doubling its proceeds, and "Windtalkers" which during the same time only managed $14 million.

I guess the only thing left to say is ZOINKS!!!!

SIR MICK
Congrats to Mick Jagger, who this past Saturday was Knighted by the British Empire for his contribution to popular music.

The Mickster joins fellow rock icons Paul McCartney and Elton John who also recently received the honor.

Evidently some broheems in England weren't too happy with the idea because of the Stones' Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll mentality, as well as Mick Jagger's rumored romance with David Bowie. This raised my eyebrows as folks obviously weren't paying attention to the exploits of Elton John...he of the stomach-pumping variety.

My only question is why Keith [Richards] hasn't been knighted yet, although in truth he wouldn't remember it anyway.

ACK IS BACK
After a prolonged illness in which he spent several months in intensive care and almost died, Forry Ackerman (creator and last decent editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine) is finally back home at the Ackermansion. (YEAH!!!!!)

Longtime followers of Forry and the REAL FM will be happy and probably suprised, to learn that former FM publisher James Warren has been keeping an e-mail vigil with Forry confidant Joe Moe, offering ANY assistance he could possibly give to help out his old friend. <>Those of us up to snuff on the relationship between these two over the years can only rejoice that it seems bygones are bygones. Warren's intense concern about Forry's condition has been unrelenting, according to J. Moe.

Though Forry cancelled his visit to MONSTER BASH (which I now will not attend), he has already committed to the upcoming WORLD CON in Kansas City, which I'm now contemplating attending.

Hey.....Mike [Smith] lives near there. Uh-Oh......could get ugly....real ugly. HUH HUH HUH HUH.

That's if for now so till next week....
Take care and God bless,
Matt
