MY BRO'S BIRTHDAY
Okay. You know how I am with birthdays. I can get kind of gushy at times, which is in direct contrast to how most people view me. The fact of the matter is that I believe firmly in holding to things that are sacred. Friends, of course, are way up on the sacred ladder. That's why, when a birthday comes along, I kind of get misty eyed and reminisce about the past, especially when it's a birthday of someone who I love with all of my heart.

Mike's birthday was this past Monday, the 16th of September. (That is Mike Smith, fellow PCR columnist---N) As he trudges along the landscape of advancing age, I'd like to remind him before he get's too depressed, that as long as we live, and wherever we are, Nolan will always be older. This is the comfort zone that works best for me. (sniff, sniff...gosh Matt....that's so supportive..sniff---N)

All joking aside, Mike and I have shared many a birthday. That I can remember any of them is a miracle to science. The blatant carnage and lack of liver concern we showed in the early days is mind boggling. Still, we had our fun and learned a bevy of life's lessons as we grew older, even though now most of them seem like either an out of body or past lives experience.

The great thing about Mike is simply that he is who he is and that he's been the most loyal friend for 20+ years. Many people live an entire life and never have a friendship as special as the one Mike and I share. Even though we've seen each other a couple times over the last 15 years, our friendship is stronger today than it has ever been. Of my excellent friend I can say this, I have no reservations whatsoever in telling everyone that I love him with all of my heart. You really are the greatest, bro.

Happy Birthday.

FANTASY FIGHTING WORDS
Now that I've deluged Mike's mental stability with thoughts of kindness and affirmation, let me point out to everyone that he is also grand in the scale of revision.

True, he did beat me like a drum 2 Sundays ago in fantasy football, but the final score (after he had a seemingly insurmountable lead) was 91-90. I'd like to share with everyone, however, that life goes on, as Mike discovered this past Sunday when he got spanked into oblivion as I, the Mattster, found the sweet taste of victory. This places us both at 1 victory, 1 loss.

Ah, yes...to be a winner, as opposed to a loser. Right, Mike?!?!!

Till next time, take care and God bless,
Matthew
