 USAF Tech-Sergeant on La Floridiana
Michael Smith on Andy Lalino's Afternoon with Forry

Letters to the EditorWe welcome your feedback.

USAF TECH-SERGEANT ON LA FLORIDIANA

Will,
Just reading your article "Future for MacDill Air Base Looks Bright", and had to laugh a little at the KC -135 name designation saying "The KC-135 was the first kerosene carrying jet tanker (hence the designation KC)."

Just wanted to let you know that KC, the aeorspace vehicle mission design series (MDS) for aircraft, stands for (K modified mission) tanker and (C basic mission) transport. Has nothing to do with kerosene!

WILL MORIATY RESPONDS:

I stand corrected. Thanks for setting the record straight and serving our great Nation!

MIKE SMITH ON ANDY'S VISIT WITH FORRY

Nolan,
What an incredible story by Andy on meeting Forry Ackerman. (Re: My Afternoon With Forry Ackerman, PCR # 211 --Nolan) I could only read with envy every detail of Andy's trip. It doesn't surprise me that Forry was so hospitable. Since I started reading FM in the early 70's, he came across to me as the proverbial friendly grandfather. I did meet Forry for a split second at a con in Virginia years ago (I thought it was slightly more than that...I guess I had a little more luck at that same con as I recall. --N) and had been scheduled to interview him for the PCR in November 2002 when he was due to visit Kansas for a con. Unfortunately, his illness at the time prevented him from traveling. Andy, thanks for living what has to be a true fanboy's dream! And thanks even more for sharing it.

Michael [Smith]
