Mad Matt's Plastic People

Hi there!!! And welcome back to the show!
I've been collecting 12-inch figures since the early '60s when G.I. Joe first came out. I've always liked the 12-inch size. They were easier to handle and they always came with a bunch of cool stuff. First it was Joe; then MARX toys come along with Johnny West and friends...and before I knew it...mom needed to buy me a bigger toy box!

To date, I have well over 1000 Joes and other 12-inch figures. I mostly collect military figures, but every now and then someone will make something that I simply MUST HAVE. Which brings me to today's subject:

TOY BIZ and MARVEL

Blade action figure
"Blade" action figure from TOY BIZ
For years I've been seeing TOY BIZ toys on the shelf EVERWHERE and I've always just kept walking past them thinking, "what a bunch of cheezy crap." HOWEVER...things have changed!

I've never been a big comic book fan. You couldn't take a comic book out back and bury it, blow it up, duct tape it to a bottle rocket and send it into space, or change its clothes and do it ALL OVER AGAIN like you could with a G.I. Joe!! Oh,I suppose you could...but somehow it wouldn't be the same.

Anyway, TOY BIZ and MARVEL have just released a wonderful new line of 12-inch figures. There are only 4 so far, but if this is any indication of what's to come, I'll need a bigger toy box!

They are: BLADE II, THE PUNISHER, WOLVERINE, and DAREDEVIL.

The Punisher
TOY BIZ's "The Punisher" action figure
I only have 2 so far: BLADE II and PUNISHER, my favorites. These are very well-constructed figures, they have 28 points of articulation, the neck is super-poseable so you can line up their gunsights and they can look straight down the barrel --OOOOO...AAAHH-- this is very important if you are taking pics, makes them look so much more realistic. They also come with the usual assortment of goodies, ya know--guns, knives, bombs...all that fun kid stuff. They all have very well made removable costumes, uniforms, trenchcoats, boots, ya know -- stuff! The Wesley Snipes BLADE II figure is really cool because the headsculpt was made from an actual laser-scan of Wesley Snipes in full BLADE gear. The PUNISHER figure has a sort of generic "BAD GUY" face which looks great reguardless of whether it is supposed to look like the new guy from the "SOON TO BE RELEASED" movie or not! The WOLVERINE figure comes in desert camo for some reason, and DAREDEVIL looks just like Ben [Affleck] did in that movie...thing...that he did...about some blind guy...or something..?

These guys are pretty easy to find at TOYS 'R' US, and they retail for around $40.00. Not bad for good quality stuff! They also come in a nifty collector box so you can just put them on your shelf and not worry about them.

Well, that's about it for now...I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!!!

On my skull scale of 1--5, I give these guys a good, strong 5. Not just for the figures...but to TOY BIZ for finally making something for ME to buy!!

MAD MATT
