Welcome To The Trop
On Wednesday night, a day after Rays Manager Joe Madden gave AL zebras a lesson on the difference between safe and out, the “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” came to finish a three game series dominated by the Rays. Both of these teams are considered to the best in the league, with the Cubs hovering around there somewhere too. Striking out 10 Angels, Kanes Furniture promises a free pizza from Papa John’s just by going to their website (that makes you read through online ad circulars and takes you through 3 different pages, and you don’t know what to do next to get your pizza). Anyway, back to the game. The Rays where winning early, but a strong comeback brought them to take a lead. Then a line drive put B.J. Upton on bases, next up, Carlos Pena (a guy you wouldn’t want to pitch to in a tight game) hit another line drive between two Angels’ outfielders that sent Upton to tie the game at 4. After that the Angels score one more in the top of the 9th putting Rays’ backs against the wall. With a double play, the Angels had the Rays with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, Jason Bartlett comes on to bat, he hits a line drive to the right side of the diamond, as the Angels’ 3rd baseman throws to 1st, gets Bartlett out, end of game. To the naked eye it would seem that these Rays need Longoria and Crawford to win, but that simply isn’t the case. This baseball team is having one of the greatest seasons in pro-baseball, and continue to find ways to win without their shining stars. “Depth” is the key to winning for all sports, and that’s something the Rays have. With the Yanks 10 games back and the Red Sox 4 ½ games back, the Rays are in a great position in one of the most competitive divisions in professional sports. On Tuesday Aug 26 make sure to get your free prostate exam. If you get one, you’ll get 2 free tickets to Rays games over the span of 1 month.

Gene Upshaw
NFL Players’ union head Gene Upshaw passed away this past Wednesday due to pancreatic cancer after he was diagnosed with the disease 3 days prior to the day of his passing. Upshaw was an outstanding player when he played for the Raiders in their hey-day then became the leader for the NFL players. Gene has gotten the players the benefits and big paychecks that the players get today. With a new agreement coming up soon between the players and owners, for the first time in along time Gene Upshaw will not be involved in negotiations.

Citrus Park Loss
The little league baseball team from Citrus Park a.k.a. (Florida) were defeated by a strong Louisiana team and an amazing pitching performance by a kid who struck out at least 25 batters in two games pitched. Citrus Park played a great season and deserve a round of applause.

A "Little" Problem
Are the Chinese Olympic Gymnastics team younger than 16? A lot of people seem to think so, and now the International Olympics Committee (IOC) wants to investigate, even thought they are going into the investigation with a biased opinion, saying that they will prove that half of the Chinese gymnastics team are of age to compete. China’s coaches are blowing it off by saying that “Asians have different body types than those of the west” and they do, but I just saw a Chinese female Olympic female wrestler built like an NFL linebacker take down a two-time world champion Hungarian wrestler. Also China’s coaches said that there is just speculation about this because USA won silver in the meet, like there’s some conspiracy in gymnastics and only gymnastics, as there was no controversy in other competitions that the Americans didn’t achieve gold medals.
