Death By CultureThe Red Box
POSTED BY VINNIE BLESI, July 4, 2011    Share

Something has silently infiltrated our lives as a culture. Something has lead us to wait in lines for access to the machines. Something has become the new soma for the current generation, and its name is Red Box.

I don't know what it is that drives people to this machine. This Red Box.

They queue up in lines inside stores and outside stores on sidewalks, braving the weather and other elements. Has Red Box become the "Soylent Green" of our generation? Isn't cable TV, network TV, netflix, youtube, the internet enough for our thirst for escape? Obviously not, as witnessed by my own eyes at the people lined up at the ominous Red Box.

The American populace is tired of the failed Washington politics', regardless of political party. The American populace is tired of the perpetual war we are engaged in. Are we at war with Eurasia or Eastasia? I can't remember. When we leave Afghanistan will the American Govt. replace it with another conflict in Libya?

Everyday Americans love their freedoms, which include escapism, our right to ignore the misery and strife and war in the world, to instead go to the Red Box, for a dose of fake Hollywood reality. This is nothing new as Hollywood has offered us movie escape dating back to great depression and two world wars. The only difference now is the delivery method.

So we give our allegiance to the machines, the Red Box.
