OSCAR (AND I DON'T MEAN MADISON) AWARDS BEST ACTOR: Agree with Mike this is a two man race. Don't see Penn or Smith swinging the votes. Pretty much comes down to Denzel and Russell. While Crowe could easily take this, my vote goes to Washington for his incredibly believable intense personality altering performance. Wow. The lucky guy in all this could be Wilkinson, who might take it if Denzel and Russell cancel each other out! WINNER: DENZEL WASHINGTON BEST ACTRESS: While deep down I would love to see Nicole Kidman take this, I've gotta give the nod to Sissy Spacek, who's performance was real and riveting. Kidman turned in her excellent performances this past year in the face of personal turmoil. Halle Berre could walk away with this, and I wouldnt have a problem with it either. But for status sake....WINNER: SISSY SPACEK
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: While I really want to lean towards one of my all time faves, in Ben Kingsley, and wouldn't mind seeing Ian McKellen win, I gotta hand it over to Jon Voight, who just explodes off the screen! WINNER: JON VOIGHT
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: There are three actresses here who I think truly deserve being nominated. The others are fodder. As much as I love Marisa Tomei, she was pretty much Marisa Tomei! Nothing spectacular in my view, as she's one of my personal favorites so I try to see everything she's in. Kate Winslet????? She was good....but how in the world she got nominated and the best actress of the year, Cameron Diaz for Vanilla Sky, didn't is totally beyond reason! But seeing as she isn't nominated, then I have to give it to the person left standing who truly deserves it. WINNER: JENNIFER CONNELLY
BEST DIRECTOR: This is an easy one. How can you not root for Opie? There would be zero hesitation if David Lynch hadn't been nominated for Mulholland Drive. Peter Jackson and "Lord"? Wouldn't hurt my feelings, but "Beautiful Mind" literally takes you into the world of schitzophrenia, where the subject's worries and suspicions become yours, as well. WINNER: RON HOWARD
BEST MOVIE: I know, I know...."Lords" or "Mind", "Mind" or "Lords"......yada, yada, yada. I went thru it too. When it all came down to where the rubber meets the road, I had to go with the only choice I could. WINNER: MOULIN ROUGE
FORRY ILLNESS I heard about Forry Ack's cancelling KC on one of the Yahoo groups I'm a member of. Sorry you won't get to see him this go round, Mike. I'm still very excited about my opportunity to meet the man himself this coming June at Monster Bash in Pittsburgh. With all the criminal crap being thrust upon him it's amazing he still has the wherewithall to go to all the conventions, but he does, God bless him. I know one of the guys working his table so hopefully I'll have an in to spend some time there as well. That's about it for now, so watch those awards, and remember...It isn't winning that's important, it's your opponent losing that means everything. Take care and God bless,
