MONSTER FISH and HORROR HOSTS
Love the monster fish stories. Apparently, a gentleman in Maryland special ordered these Snakehead fish as pets, then decided to just dump them in a local pond when he got tired of them. Unfortunately, these fish can crawl across land on their fins and have moved themselves to other bodies of water in the area. Pretty cool, huh?

Thanks, Will, for the piece on the good Dr. Paul Bearer. He was also a part of my Saturday afternoon ritual as a teenager. Your story reminded me of Cleveland's version of Horror Hosts, Houlihan and Big Chuck. They began hosting in 1966 and Big Chuck is still going with a new partner, "Little" Joe, every Friday night. I remember as a boy a highlight in my life was finding out I was bowling next to Bob Houlihan's son. I even had a picture taken, which I still have.

HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES UPDATE
Sad to report that MGM has dropped their plans to release Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses" film theatrically. Zombie now plans a straight to video release October 15th.

YAH! YAH!
Even sadder to report the death of character actor Leo McKern, who died at a nursing home in Bath, England this past week. He was 82. Best known to fantasy fans as No. 2, the authoritarian figure in "The Prisoner," McKern also starred in 44 episodes of "Rumpole of the Bailey." He also appeared in such films as "HELP!," "A Man for All Seasons," "Ryan's Daughter," and "The French Lieutenant's Woman." My favorite performance of his was as the evil Moriarty in "Sherlock Holme's Younger Brother."

TAKING THE NEXT STEP
This week saw the end of two journeys and the beginning of two more. This past Tuesday, my son, Phillip, played his last American Legion baseball game. He will next play this fall for Kansas City Kansas Community College. Even more special, this Friday, July 26th, he and I will get up early and hit the links as he celebrates his 18th Birthday! Has it been that long since he was born? I mean, it seems like only yesterday that I was an 18 year old kid singing my ass off in Corey's kitchen. The other night he and I went to dinner and I found myself buttering his bread for him, something I hadn't done for years! My little boy has become a man. I have enjoyed the opportunity to chronicle much of his childhood in these rants. I look forward to doing the same now that he is a young man! Happy birthday son. I love you!
(And a Happy Birthday to Phillip Smith from all of us here at Nolan's Pop Culture Review!!-----hugs, Uncle Nolan)

Well, that's it for this week. Need to work on my golf swing or I'm sure to get my ass kicked this week!
(I learned from Adam Sandler you use a hockey stick to improve your golf game!---N)
