DAILY LAUGH MAKERS
Kudos once again to Rick Sousa for his favorite comic strip challenge. And like everyone who contributed their faves, I too had to go back and list a few more that are or were near and dear to my funny bone:
FOX TROT- Can't agree with Nolan more on this. When Jason Fox and his friend, Marcus, begin talking movies or comics it always rings true to me. I also like the few weeks each summer that Peter goes to work in a movie theatre. The strips are almost cryptic when they show the inner workings of a glamorous job that isn't.
SALLY FORTH- Another secret favorite of mine. I also used to follow "LuAnn," which was similar in tone.
NANCY!- my God, could this strip be any less plain? I used to think that the artist didn't "draw" this comic, but merely used ink stamps to position his players. I still have on my bulletin board a strip where Nancy is trumpeting the pleasure of her uncle as her favorite "ride." She is shown straddling him while "motion lines" clearly show her bouncing up and down on her uncle's lap! How could you not enjoy this youthful hijinx?
ARNOLD- I'm pretty sure this strip is no longer around. In the mid 80's it was one of my "must reads" daily.
POGO- not only did I enjoy the daily going on's in the swamp, but Albert the Alligator is STILL the only comic character I can draw.
and one that must be sent to hell:
ROSE IS A ROSE- I don't know what I hate more about this strip.........the way the stupid child pronounces his words or the fact that I almost go into a diabetic coma when I read it are just two reasons I hate it.
PLEASE, GOD, NO!
According to Entertainment Weekly Magazine, these four actors are the top runners to fill Christopher Reeve's cape in the next Superman film:
KEANU REEVES: I can see it now, "Lois.........whoa!"
JOSH HARTNETT: too young.
JUDE LAW: great actor. But I can't see Superman weighing 150 lbs soaking wet.
HEATH LEDGER: like Hartnett, too young. He's also Australian, which was even evident in the deep south during "Monster's Ball."
I said some time ago that my current choice would be Ben Affleck. There's a scene in "Dogma" where Affleck, as an expelled angel from heaven, is descending from the sky. As soon as I saw it I turned to my friend and said, "He'd make a great Superman." Not sure if playing "Daredevil" will hurt his chances or not. Big plus also is that he's a comic book fan and would obviously bring some knowledge to the role. Any thoughts?
Well, that's it for this week. Have a good one! See ya!
