STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES
What is it about making millions of dollars a year that turns seemingly intelligent people into complete and utter morons?

Quincy Carter, starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, has tested positive for a second failed drug test and, as a consequence, has been kicked off the team, costing himself in literal millions of dollars.

For those of you not "in the know" about these things, the NFL has policies in place to protect itself, and its owners and fans, from being held hostage by stupid play because of drugged-out athletes. It's not easy to get on the list. You pretty much have to be busted in order for that to happen. At that point, you are tested regularly. And by regularly, I mean all the time. There is no surprise. You full well understand it's coming and will happen, sometimes when you least expect it.

Rumors swirled that Carter tested positive for cocaine, which Carter vehemently denies. But does that really matter? Is that really the issue? Quite obviously, he did SOME drug that is on the NFL list, which could be anything from speed to pot to coke to heroine. That he could argue the point that he "didn't do cocaine" is irrelavent. He stupidly did SOMETHING! Otherwise, he wouldn't be sitting in no-man's land right now without a team, without a contract, and without his one-time multi-million dollar salary.

Just unbelieveable.

BUSH SPEAK
I'd like to thank Brandon Jones for replying to my BUSH SPEAK in last week's letter column. He suggested that I try to find things pro-Kerry, as opposed to anti-Bush. And while this is section is usually geared toward the Bush-Meister's inability to stand by what he says, I've decided to switch gears a little and include John Kerry in this edition of Bush Speak.

Much has been made about Kerry's flip-flop regarding Saddam having WMD. According to Bush, Kerry just can't seem to make up his mind about what he believes. To enforce this accusation, Bush points to a quote made by Kerry regarding Hussein in 1997:

"He cannot be permitted to go unobserved and unimpeded toward his horrific objective of amassing a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. This is not a matter about which there should be any debate whatsoever in the Security Council, or, certainly, in this Nation. If he remains obdurate, I believe that the United Nations must take, and should authorize immediately, whatever steps are necessary to force him to relent".

In 2001, Kerry again speaks to this issue: "Saddam Hussein has used weapons of mass destruction against his own people, and there is some evidence of their efforts to try to secure these kinds of weapons and even test them."

Both statements, I should point out, speak to the possibility of Saddam having WMD, NOT that he actually does. Not until October of 2002, during his floor speach regarding the resolution authorizing use of force against Saddam, does JK point to him having WMD. Why the change? Well, that very same month the US intelligence agencies submitted a report which concluded that old Saddam did indeed have chemical and biological weapons, as well as a resurgent Nuclear program.

But as we found out much later, that report was grossly inaccurate. Worse yet, we found out that a September report concluded no such findings. Naturally, Kerry and the majority of Congress weren't informed of that report. As if that wouldn't be bad enough, there was yet another report that came out in November of 2002, which "found no reliable information" concerning producing or stockpiling WMD in Iraq on Hussein's part. Not surprisingly, Bush kept that report from everybody too, until some good American with a conscience leaked it in June 2003. This is why Kerry stated on June 18th of that year that Bush "misled every one of us".

He sure did, brother.

Till next time, take care and God bless,
Matthew
