  Episode 9 (6-6-02): Cellphone Safety
Guests: John Coates and Lou Hendrix
PHOTOS ON THE WAY...

In this episode of TWON, John Coates and Lou Hendrix, both employees of a local cellphone distributor that specializes in safeguards on cellphones, came on the program to discuss the hazards of cellphone technology and why it's important to know the dangers. Among many things discussed, there are three basic issues of paramount importance to me and came as quite a shock: 1.) The the depth to which microwave radiation from cellphones reaches inside your head or other body parts. This radiation continues to be a danger even with the phone switched off and hanging at your side as there have been cases of skin cell damage from this very practice. 2.) The danger of similar exposure to very young children is mulitplied. While it's acknowleged that children's access to cellphones is limited anyway, by the age of ten when some are starting to get used to having one nearby, the damage concerns are roughtly twice that of an adult. 3.) I hadn't even heard this part before I did this program: that there is a class action lawsuit out, targeting several cellphone manufacturers, that may rival or exceed the damages sought by the victims of tobacco. Among the charges are many that allege that cellphone manufacturers knew of the dangers and deliberately failed to inform the public (cover-up).
John Coates lost his young daughter to cellphone radiation.
